Mardie Creek Wharf Construction – Import & PreAssembly Support
Date: August 2024 – July 2025

Overview

Base Group Australia was entrusted with delivering a complete import, handling, and preassembly solution for the Mardie Creek Wharf — part of one of the largest salt mining operations in the world. Over an 11month period, our team managed every stage from international cargo arrival to barge delivery at site, ensuring precision, safety, and efficiency throughout.

Scope of Work

  • Import & Discharge: Received and discharged all internationally manufactured project materials via the Port of Ashburton.
  • Customs & Quarantine: Coordinated inspections and clearances with DAFF and Customs.
  • Material Handling: Utilised our fleet of cranes, forklifts, trucks, and EWPs to transfer cargo from vessel to Base’s secure laydown area.
  • PreAssembly Support:
    • Lifted and flipped large modules for full access for projects painters and boilermakers.
    • Attached storm clips and grating.
    • Performed dual crane lifts using 280T crane with Base’s 150T crane to align and join jetty components into single large modules.
    • Used a Tutt Bryant Heavy Lift 800T Crane for the largest modules on the wharf.
  • Barge LoadOut: Managed 12 loadout port calls to Mardi, transporting completed modules for installation.

This project established a turnkey import solution for largescale project materials in the Pilbara, reinforcing the Port of Ashburton’s role as a critical logistics hub.
