Greater Enfield Development

In 2020, Base Group Australia played a pivotal role in the Enfield Decommissioning Project, marking a milestone for the Port of Ashburton. This operation brought the first vessel into the port since its handover from Chevron to the State, demonstrating the port’s strategic value to the offshore industry.

Scope of Work

  • Stevedoring Operations: Managed the arrival of the Skandi Hercules, overseeing safe and efficient unloading of decommissioned offshore materials.
  • Logistics Coordination: Transported materials by road to a specialised decommissioning facility located 40 km from the port.
  • Operational Support: Delivered seamless portside services, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental protocols.

Vessel Significance

At 109 metres in length, the Skandi Hercules showcased the Port of Ashburton’s capability to berth large offshore vessels — a first for the region. This achievement positioned the port as a game changer for the industry, offering capabilities unmatched between Geraldton and Dampier. To this day, it remains the only port along this stretch of coastline able to accommodate vessels of this class.
