In 2021, Base Group Australia provided critical port and logistics support for the decommissioning of Santos’ Sinbad offshore platform. This complex operation required precision handling of large offshore structures and showcased the Port of Ashburton’s unique capabilities.

Scope of Work

• Port Operations: Supported the safe landing of the platform’s bottom section onto a 98metre barge.
• Onboard Breakdown: Coordinated the dismantling of the structure into transportable sections while still on the barge.
• Ashore Handling: Managed the transfer of all materials from barge to shore for further processing and disposal.

Port Capability

The Port of Ashburton remains the only port between Geraldton and Dampier capable of hosting a barge of this size. This project reinforced its strategic importance to the offshore and decommissioning sectors, enabling operations that would be impossible elsewhere along this stretch of coastline.
